- The assembly guide calls for a foundation slab or strip foundation that's completely flat and load-bearing, and recommends having it laid by a specialist
- Anchor the barrel firmly to the foundation, since strong winds can move it. Anchoring is the owner's responsibility.

Installation
How assembly works
The kit arrives pre-cut, with no cutting needed. The assembly guide calls for manual skills and a helper, and lists a hammer and mallet, a cordless screwdriver with Phillips and Torx bits, a tape measure, drill bits (including 20–30 mm for the heater cable), a spirit level, an open-end wrench, a utility knife and a ladder. Every screw should be pre-drilled, and a qualified electrician must make the electrical connection. The assembly guide walks through every step with diagrams.
Before delivery
- Lay a flat, load-bearing slab or strip foundation
- Plan how you'll anchor the barrel
- Book a qualified electrician for the 8 kW heater
Build the barrel
- Mount the cradles, then build up the barrel staves
- Fit the front and rear walls
- Fasten the metal bands, keeping the floor drain holes open
Finish & power on
- Mount the glass door, benches, backrest and duckboard floor
- Fit the rain jacket over the barrel
- Your electrician connects the heater, then run a first heat cycle

Using & care
Simple to use, easy to keep
Your session
- Ladle a little water onto the stones for a burst of steam
- Control the heater from your phone over WiFi
- Sit on the upper bench for more heat, or the lower one for less
Stay comfortable
- Drink water before, during and after
- Sit on a folded towel, with another on the floor
- Cool down slowly before you shower
Care
- Heat the barrel up without water on the stones now and then, to dry it out
- Don't treat or paint the interior wood
- Keep the floor drain holes clear, since a barrel isn't completely watertight in rain
Leave the sauna right away if you feel dizzy, sleepy or uncomfortable. If you're pregnant, have a heart or blood pressure condition, take medication or have any medical condition, check with your clinician before use. Avoid alcohol before or during sessions, and supervise children closely.

Do I need an electrician?
Yes. The 8 kW Harvia Spirit is a single-phase electric heater, and the electrical connection must be made by a qualified electrician.
What does the WiFi heater do?
Finnish Sauna Builders includes the 8 kW Harvia Spirit WiFi heater, so you can control the sauna from your phone. Harvia builds in a safety sensor that stops the heater from starting if something is placed on top of it, and a second sensor to prevent overheating.
Which exterior stain should I choose?
You can choose Natural, Walnut, Teak or Larch for the exterior. The price is the same for each. Don't treat or paint the interior wood.
What foundation does it need?
A foundation slab or strip foundation that's completely flat and load-bearing. The assembly guide recommends having it laid by a specialist, and the barrel must be anchored to it.
Does it need any cutting?
No. Every component arrives pre-cut. You'll need a helper, basic tools, and a drill to pre-drill the screws.
Will water get in?
A barrel sauna isn't completely watertight in rain. The lowest stave has drain holes so water can run out, and the included rain jacket covers the roof. Heating it now and then without water on the stones keeps it dry.
How does it compare with the Helsinki?
Both seat 4 on the same footprint. The Tampere uses the whole length for the sauna room, at 62.99 in inside; the Helsinki gives part of it to a covered front terrace, at 51.18 in inside.
